Supplemental
health plans are designed for individuals and families who
already have standard medical insurance and would like
additional coverage. Supplemental health insurance plans may
be purchased in conjunction with a standard medical insurance
plan or on a stand-alone basis.
Supplemental Medical Insurance requires monthly premiums but it is voluntary unless the individual chooses to enroll in a Medicare + Choice program such as a Health Maintenance Organization. |

| Supplementary Medical Insurance is a voluntary medical insurance plan. Individuals pay a monthly premium, deductible, and 20 percent of the medical expenses. The remaining 80 percent is paid by Supplemental Medical Insurance. It only covers charges for physicians, surgeons, and other health services.
